Amanda

Today my friend Amanda graciously tromped through snow drifts (completely soaking her pants and feet!) to let me to take some pictures of her. I spent a lot of time looking up tips for taking portrait photographs on the Internet. I still made some stupid mistakes, such as turning the camera off to save battery and then forgetting and trying to take another picture! But overall I think it went really well. We took these at a school close to my house.

Things for me to work on for next time: Good angles to shoot from and lighting!

First Try

Almost a month ago now I got to celebrate the birth of my nephew Emmett. My oldest brothers birthday was a few days later and I took the opportunity to go camera crazy! I loved taking candid photos of my growing family. There is something so amazing about capturing those small moments you see so frequently yet completely take for granted.

My other two nephews Jasper and Wyatt are the perfect age to photograph their curiosity and capturing it was so special to me.  After posting my photographs on facebook, I noticed people continually commenting on them and realized how proud I was of them. I had zero skill but was still able to capture precious moments. I realized then that photography does not have to be about skill. It's about capturing the small moments, the expressions and the emotions that truly make us who we are.

After looking at the photos my sister-in-law suggested I start a business called BlamCam (as my family all calls me Blam). Although I know I am not qualified to charge people BlamCam just works!

Everyone Has To Start Somewhere

Last year my fiance bought a beautiful camera. The simple but still intimidating, Canon Rebel T1i. In fall of this last year I decided I wanted to learn to use it, and learn to take stunning portraits.  I am a full time psychology student and definitly do not have time or money to learn how to use it properly. Instead I have decided (for now) that photography will just be a hobby that I attempt to learn on the side until I can go take some classes and learn for real.

I hope to use this blog as a "skills journal" to document my growth and learning in the field. I admit for now I know absolutly nothing, I'm just having fun and enjoying the results.
